Issue Brief
The Issue Brief is a detailed report regarding a major modern issue. Within it contains an explanation of the problem at hand, impacts of the problem for everyone involved, and possible solutions to the problem. I chose mine to be about the United State's dependence on China and other foreign nations to deal with our throwaway culture and the amount of recyclable waste we create. In the report, I recommend that the US needs to prevent the use of single-use plastics and needs to move away from a reliance on recyclables through the use of reusable products. This would involve a major societal change inspired by governmental bans and companies ceasing to produce products that are not reusable. This assignment expanded my breadth of sustainable knowledge and thus allowed me to be a better advocate to make change reality.
Paradigm Shift
The Paradigm Shift paper outlines a major change over time due to specific circumstances. Analyzing the context around why society changes is fairly important for understanding human behavior and predicting how people may act in the future. My essay was written about the change from physical music and fumbling to change the cassette or CD in the car to what we live with today- digital music- cheaply and easily accessible. I analyze Napster's role in creating the market desire for on-demand streaming and the major record label's role in mishandling the situation, thus allowing companies outside the music industry to take control of the market.
